Revolution in Charleston

A lifelong love of reading and researching combined with a passion for the Southern Campaign resulted in Charles Baxley’s online journal, the Southern Campaigns of the American Revolution. Driven by a desire to both leverage the internet to share his research and to have a platform from which he could share important research of his history colleagues, Charles build SCAR from a small magazine to a scholarly website publishing periodicals, articles, and even books. SCAR also sponsored and organized regular events including historical conferences, round tables, tours, and talks.

History of the collection/collector:
Charles Baxley is a lawyer in Lugoff, SC with a number of side passions including scholarship and organizing research and promotion efforts regarding the Revolutionary War in South Carolina. From leading tours of the Battle of Camden to coordinating the research efforts of professional and lay scholars, Charles is perhaps best known for his online scholarly journal, Southern Campaigns of the American Revolution (link) and being the Chairman of the Sestercentennial Commission.

Southern Campaigns of the American Revolution contains peer-reviewed scholarly articles regarding the people, places, and events of the Southern Campaign, focusing largely on South Carolina and nearby territories. These articles are well-researched, edited, and represent significant efforts of the authors to better understand and explain history.
