The Charles Baxley Collection

This collection generously donated by Charles Baxley

A lifelong love of reading and researching combined with a passion for the Southern Campaign resulted in Charles Baxley’s extensive library. From new releases throughout his lifetime to rare and hard to find books, Charles collected books, maps, pamphlets, and other written material concerning scholarship on the American Revolution, specifically the Southern Campaigns, and turned his study into a research library where the information he needed was probably close at hand.

History of the collection/collector:

Charles Baxley is a lawyer in Lugoff, SC with a number of side passions including scholarship and organizing research and promotion efforts regarding the Revolutionary War in South Carolina. From leading tours of the Battle of Camden to coordinating the research efforts of professional and lay scholars, Charles is perhaps best known for his online scholarly journal, Southern Campaigns of the American Revolution (link) and being the Chairman of the Sestercentennial Commission.

Charles B. Baxley died on March 30, 2024 after contributing to and editing many drafts of this paper until he was satisfied that it was ready to be reviewed for publication. In honor of his memory, this paper is being presented to the public posthumously.
