About Our Process

Our Approach

The Trust is on a mission to preserve, protect and promote (into perpetuity) the stories, artifacts and history of South Carolina’s role in the American Revolution. We take this work very seriously and have developed an effective system that acknowledges the donor’s work, celebrates the story of your collection and honors the legacy this information represents.

We primarily work with donors that have information, stories or artifacts related to South Carolina’s role in the American Revolution. The Trust exists to honor your life’s work and build a repository of stories, data, facts and artifacts from this period so that this information can be preserved for and accessed by future generations.

Ready To Donate?

There are a lot of different ways that collections find their way into The Trust. But, our process is always the same. It starts with building a relationship of trust. We get to know you as a collector, understand your needs and motivations and find a mutually beneficial path forward to preserving, protecting and promoting your life’s work (in perpetuity).

Step 1

Fill out our online donation form or send The Trust an email description of your collection.

Step 2

Setup a meeting with SCART to review and discuss the possibilities. This is when we discuss the Donor’s timeline as well as your general wishes on how to protect and promote your collection.

Step 3

SCART performs a simple audit and Inventory of the collection to determine it’s fit for our mission.

Step 4

Donor and SCART Board votes to accept assignment with conditions and SCART and the donor sign a legal agreement to assign the collection over to SCART.

Step 5

SCART’s collections team works directly with the donor to acquire the necessary credentials to access, evaluate and migrate your collection over to SCART’s stewardship.

The Value For Donors.

Why Donate?

When you make a donation to the Trust, you’re making a commitment to:

  • Preserve your life’s work and allow it to live on
  • Ensure generations have access after you’re gone
  • Help us tell South Carolina’s story

*All donors retain full access and rights to their collection while they are living so you can continue to advance your life’s work.  The Trust retains ownership, but you retain access.
