John is a founding partner in the investment management firm of Allison Investment Management, LLC.  He is a South Carolina native, graduate of Wofford College, and has lived in Columbia, SC for the last 24 years. He is a board member of the SC Archaeological Research Trust and a founding member of the Southern Campaigns of the American Revolution (SCAR). His ‘hobby’ of Revolutionary War history dates to 1975 when he and his father started a quest to identify and define various Revolutionary War sites in the Carolinas. His particular passion is Revolutionary War battlefield archaeology. He is credited with locating and defining more lost Revolutionary War battlefields in the Carolinas than anyone else. In an effort to preserve these important sites, he shares his findings with the South Carolina Institute for Archaeology and Anthropology (SCIAA) and with the South Carolina Battleground Preservation Trust (SCBPT).  In early 2023, he was named the Distinguished Archaeologist of the Year by the Archaeological Society of South Carolina.
